Member Reciprocity

I'd like to find out if any accredited museums out there have any sort of reciprocity agreement with other accredited museums to offer free or reduced admission to each others' members?  We are newly accredited and the question has been raised.  Thank you!

We just joined NARM which allows members who spend at least $100 for membership at your museum are given privileges at over 900 other museums. It costs your museum $175 a year to offer.  https://narmassociation.org/

We'll be joining NARM soon as well. The director of another small organization nearby shared her experience with me saying that it boosted their $135 membership level by an additional 25-30 new members. Feedback from her members is that they really love the program. I can't believe there is a benefit of this value out there for $175. I couldn't buy each of our $100 + members a coffee once a year for that.

Thanks for sharing Barbara, I'd love to hear more feedback from members.

Our Museum does not offer reciprocity for admission to other AAM accredited institutions. We do participate in the ASTC Passport program that provides free admission for our members into about 400 ASTC museums.

    Hi Leora,

Since you are an Arboretum, you might want to look into the American Horticultural Society reciprocity program. http://ahsgardening.org/gardening-programs/rap/find
While I don't work at a garden, I am a member of one and have used the reciprocity benefits to see almost 10 other gardens nation wide.

    Best,
    Nicole

Yes, we do have a program for reciprocal admission with other botanical gardens that are over a certain number of miles away.  It works well and members do appreciate it.

We are a international single artist museum and we offer the North American Reciprocal Membership NARM at highest General Membership Level and to our Upper Membership levels. We offer the benefit so that we have a featured benefit to offer to our non-Local visitors. 75% of our visitation is outside the local market. Membership is a hard sale for transient visitors. NARM and "financial support" are two of the reasons we able to sale memberships to the 75% on non-local visitors.

Due to the number of local NARM affiliations we restrict NARM benefits from museums within 50 mile radius. Within the 50 Mile radius there are over 3500 NARM memberships and the affiliate museums. The Dali Museum only has 300 NARM memberships so the allocation is unbalanced to the Free Admission so we restrict the reciprocity within 50 miles of the museum.

As you can imagine this is a source of contention to local member with a desire to visit the Dali Museum. To offset this we created a local reciprocity program with local museums (all within the NARM restriction so that each month The Dali Museum features a Local Reciprocal for ALL members. We schedule the reciprocity based on total Households for each affiliate museum So that when we are in our slow season we feature affiliates with higher households and when we are in busier season we feature museums with lower total household. Make the impact on admission work for us.

Feel free to check out the NARM FAQ and The Membership Reciprocal on our website at Membership Reciprocity Program - Salvador Dali Museum and at  Salvador Dali Museum.
