  • 1.  Seeking Co-Presenters: Movement in Museums

    Posted 09-04-2018 12:59 AM
My colleague and I are seeking co-presenters at the 2018 Annual Meeting for a panel about movement in museums.  Specifically, we are interested in exploring the way that the body can be leveraged as a meaning-making tool through dance, walking meditation, performance, improv, etc. We are  hoping to present the results of our research about mindful movement in the art museum, and are excited to collaborate on a panel with other researchers and practitioners who are interested in discussing the challenges of conceptualizing and evaluating embodied museum experiences.

    Interested? Let's chat!

Hi Zoe - I am interested in your panel topic regarding yoga and meditation in museums and other venues as a way to promote mindfulness and peace.  I also have materials for a class called "Art and Yoga" which focuses on igniting the creative spirit.  It has individual and group activities and can be geared toward children or adults.  I am a long-time practitioner of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation and live in an intentional spiritual community in NM.  Our Museum and historic properties are used daily for yoga and meditation and our many visitors come to participate or take a tour to learn.  Let me know if this fits in.
    All the best -

Hi Zoe! I'd love to chat with you about this, especially since I like to involve storytelling and improv with my events. What kind of format are you looking for? I'm confident we could get together a good presentation quickly, depending on if our modes and motives fit!

    Cheers!

Hey all and sundry, they have a really cool proposal out there. It doesn't fit what I do, so I can't be part of it, but if you incorporate performance into your experiences, hit them up now!

    Good morning,

I suggest that you reach out to Shelley Weisberg, the author of Museum Movement Techniques, who has trained many educators and docents at a couple of museums where I've worked. Her MMT are research-based and fun to integrate into gallery tours!

    Hi Zoe!

We've offered mission-focused dance and yoga programs at the U.S. Botanic Garden. We are also planning on doing a plant-based improv program this fall. I'd be happy to connect you to the coordinator of those programs if you're interested!

    Best,
    Libby

    Hi Zoe -

I work at the Memorial Art Gallery, an encyclopedic museum affiliated with the University of Rochester. I have worked closely with the UR's robust Dance and Movement Department on a series of projects, including improvisational performances in an exhibition and a movement installation in the museum's pavilion.Faculty have also used works in the museum as prompts for exercises.

I would be happy to discuss further and send you some images of the events.

    Best,
    Andrew
