    The cultural sector has been severely and persistently affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with museums particularly hard hit. In this difficult context, UNESCO has  recently published a study of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on museum attendance, budgets, and activities to assess the threats to the sector and its evolution in the next few years. speaks with the author to analyze the main findings and to explore future trends that will affect all decisions we will have to make as museum leaders and professionals.     François Mairesse teaches museology and cultural economics at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris, where he also holds the UNESCO Chair for the Study of Museum Diversity and Its Evolution. He also teaches museology at the Ecole du Louvre. He was formerly president of the International Committee for Museology of ICOM (ICOFOM). He is the author of several articles and books on museology.
