    Hi there,

I hope to begin making custom storage mounts for small/medium sized objects (think moccasins) - I'm wondering if there is a guide or solid overview of this process? Any recommendations?

    Thanks

    Hi there,
There are all kinds of examples for custom storage mounts with instructions on how to make them in the online resource Storage Techniques for Art, Science, and History Collections (stashc.com). The site is a collaboration of members from the American Institute for Conservation and the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections, and was developed with support from the Kress Foundation.

You might look at the book, "Mount-making for Museum Objects" by the Canadian Conservation Institute. Many display mounts can also serve as storage mounts. Plus, the book has an extensive bibliography referencing other relevant publications.

Also, Rebecca Newberry conservator at the Science Museum of Minnesota teaches a 4 week online course on Storage Techniques http://www.museumstudy.com/courses/course-list/storage-techniques/
