Colleagues: I wanted to give you the chance to see the recent statement I and my colleagues drafted in reaction to the Trump Administration's withdrawal of Guidance protecting Transgender rights under Title IX. We are grateful to AAM for sharing this on our home page and in their communications.
https://aam-us.org/docs/default-source/professional-networks/lgbtq-title-ix-march2017.pdfIt's always a good time to remember that the term "bathroom bill" is derogatory. The LGBTQ Alliance Welcoming Guidelines includes a glossary of terms, including defamatory terms."Bathroom bill. A new term created and used by far-right extremists to oppose nondiscrimination laws that protect transgender people. The term is geared to incite fear and panic at the thought of encountering transgender people in public restrooms. Use non-discrimination law/ordinance instead."
If you aren't familiar with the Welcoming Guidelines, please check them out here:
http://www.aam-us.org/docs/default-source/professional-networks/lgbtq_welcome_guide.pdf?sfvrsn=8As always, we encourage you to become a member of the LGBTQ Alliance (free for AAM members) and please don't hesitate to contact us any time. We are working on "Welcoming Guidelines 2.0," more information coming at a session at AAM. Stay tuned and add your voice for equality, diversity, and inclusion in the museum community.
P.S. Excuse the typo in the title!
