  • 1.  Insurance wording for Traveling Exhibition Contract

    Posted 08-22-2019 12:10 PM
    Hello all,

I'm working on a contract for our traveling exhibition and I'm struggling with the section on insurance. Would anyone be willing to share what wording they use in their contract in relation to insurance for traveling exhibitions?  Thank you so much for all your help!

    Best,

    Megan

    Hi Megan,

This is what we use at the Museum of Russian Icons. Hope it helps.

Objects shall be insured at the borrower's expense for the value stated on the face of this agreement under an all-risk wall-to-wall policy. Lender shall determine whether the borrower insures the objects or whether lender insures them and bills the borrower for the premium. If the borrower is insuring the objects, lender must be furnished with a certificate of insurance. Any lapses in coverage will not release the borrower from liability for loss or damage.

A great source of information for all things related to traveling exhibits is On The Road Again: Developing and Managing Traveling Exhibitions by Rebecca Buck and Jean Gilmore.   It's out of print, but perhaps AAM would consider a re-print?

Another place to ask this question is the listserv of AAM's Collections Stewardship Professional Network.    You can join on their website: Collections Stewardship.

What ever verbiage you decide as most suitable in your context, run it by your legal department.

    Hi there,

You need two insurance sections; 1) General Liability & 2) Fine Art Insurance.  In some instances, you need IP-Advertising insurance when traveling an IP and terrorist insurance when in certain regions of world.

It is best to check with your underwriter of various insurances your institution hold.  You also need your host institution to hold insurance.
