Our situation is a bit different, as we don't have a staff party but we do have a membership party (about 500 people crammed into a 5,000 sq foot museum....not the greatest for social distancing!). We've decided to flat out scrap it for this year, but we did toss around a few ideas that simply weren't economical considering the number of guests and cost to implement.
However, for a staff party perhaps it would be worth it. We all hate zoom meetings and happy hours, but one option would be to send care packages to your staff that include party favors, food (whether snacks or a full meal) and drinks. Specifically, we discussed "to-go" cocktails. That would still make them feel special during this time, and if you wanted to make it a zoom function you could--another idea to help liven up the virtual party would be gag gifts that everyone opens on camera.

Subject: Holiday Non-party?
Hi everyone! We were starting to brainstorm ideas for celebrating as a staff for the holidays this year... do you know what your museum plans are? Will you do a gift? A bonus? A party - socially distanced? Are you skipping it? Have you even thought about it yet, and me bringing it up just made you groan?
Thank you all in advance!
