    Dear fellow Museum colleagues:

Hopefully, you have seen last week's October 16th AVISO newsletter regarding the upcoming Museum Store Sunday, taking place this year on November 25, 2018 during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  This exciting international shopping event and advocacy campaign puts the spotlight on our institutions and museum stores directly to the general public.

Now in its second year, this annual event launched by the Museum Store Association (MSA), an AAM affiliate, is growing exponentially. Last year's inaugural event participants came from 700 stores at cultural institutions from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and from ten countries on three continents worldwide.  Many participating museums enjoyed triple digit sales increases from day-over-day sales with some institutions reporting their best Sunday after Thanksgiving ever.  With your help, we are now at 800 participants with more joining each day.

As Chairperson of the MSA Advocacy Committee responsible for Museum Store Sunday, I wanted to let you know there is a community of MSA volunteers, including Regional Representatives and myself available to help you with any Museum Store Sunday questions. Please feel free to contact us at info@museumstoresunday.org about participating or check out www.museumstoresunday.org which features tools and information for you to plan special events, promotions and Museum Store Sunday marketing.

Participation in Museum Store Sunday is open to all independently operated museum stores and non-profit retailers located at museums, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, historic sites, and other unique cultural institutions in the United States and internationally.

Let's join together and tell the world on November 25, 2018 that museums and their museum stores are great places to patronize and support!

    Thank you.

Thank you Susan for your great post. I would like to add my name as a resource for any museums looking for assistance with Museum Store Sunday or any questions on how to participate. At the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, we are working with our membership, marketing & communications, and visitor experience departments to welcome members and the general public to the de Young and Legion of Honor on Museum Store Sunday. We will be offering a store-wide discount of 25% off all regular-priced merchandise on that day only, raffles to receive five museum memberships and a museum gift card, and local artisan trunk shows at each museum. We experienced triple-digit increases in our sales and a double-digit increase in our attendance on Museum Store Sunday.
