  • 1.  Survey results on Audience Motivations

    Posted 01-28-2020 12:41 PM

    Hi,

I was recently a participant in a Cultural Leadership and Audience Motivations Study on museums and cultural institutions, led by an independent researcher. The focus of his survey was uniquely on leaders' beliefs of audience motivations, rather than on the audience members themselves. I am passing along the report from this survey, in case it is of interest to others. Please direct questions to the author, as I was simply a participant.

Many respondents said they believed that people visit because they're drawn to the organization's content or subject matter, citing things like exhibitions, programs, or events. It was more common for study participants to frame visitors' motivations in terms of what the organization offers, rather than in terms of the impact of those offerings on visitors' goals.
