  • 1.  Exhibit Relocation

    Posted 11-10-2014 10:38 AM
    Good Morning All,
I'm in need of enlightenment. My museum is currently offering to relocate some objects in our collection that don't meet our mission statement. All the red tape has been cleared, donors notified, now I just need to get the word out to interested historical societies or museum's. Are there any active Lservs or other portals besides, Twitter and Facebook?

    Thank you for your time!

    Rochelle

Rochelle:  Try contacting Rusty Baker of PA Museums rusty.baker@pamuseums.org to get the word out in your state.

    Hi Rochelle,
You may also try the RCAAM Listserv as well (directions for subscription at rcaam.org/listserv, if you're not already registered). We frequently get people offering deaccessioned objects for transfer/purchase on there. MUSEUM-L is good too, but more international.

Side note: Rusty is an awesome advocate for PA museums!

    Cheers,
    Tracey

Did you check with http://www.aaslh.org ?
Are these deaccessioned collections? Or are you thinking of it as a transfer situation?

    Good Morning,

@Tracey, yeah Rusty is a fun one, which is why I was glad the suggestion was made. Sometimes the simplest solutions are right in front of you. I've known him for so long, I neglected him as a resource. Thanks for the link on the Musem-L. Also to Jennifer and the others thanks for the lead on the AASLH and yes the collection is deaccessioned.

You will have to forgive me, as you all may have come across at one time or another, I'm trying to organize ten years of (unintentional) free will chaos into museum standard. I really appreciate the advice.

    Cheers!
