Our museum is not a historic house, rather it is a historic school. We have a room that was divided some time back - splitting the science room into two rooms - a Kitchen and a classroom. More recently, the classroom got divided into two, with the back half being an archives storage. The front room seemed to alternate from exhibits to exhibits in progress. We cleared out the exhibit pieces and put in tables and a desk and bookcases.
It is a small space, but there is enough for two - three researchers and a docent.
