  • 1.  Docents & ipads on tour

    Posted 06-30-2015 01:57 PM

We're in the process of training our docents to use ipads on their gallery tours. So far, it's been gradual - training small groups for temporary exhibition tours and for our lunchtime spotlight tours. Currently staff is working with these groups to determine a relatively small number of digital assets, and staff is also loading/managing that content on the ipads.

We're looking to scale up our program - bringing all 140+ docents into the ipad fold - and are looking for ways to efficiently manage content. I have two questions:

    • Do docents at your institution determine the content they'll include on their ipads/tours? Or is it something that staff determines, or helps determine with docent input?
    • For content management, has anyone had success with a particular system or platform? Ideally, docents would be able to self-serve, accessing video clips, images, etc. themselves, rather than having to consult with staff every time they are selecting digital assets for their tours.

    Thanks!

I think having available a multimedia presentation is positive. We have several tours one is docent only and one uses multimedia. We have a set selection of what is delivered. The lecture portions can vary depending on the audience and questions that come up.
