Dear colleagues, Can anyone recommend a cleaning technique for theorem paintings on velvet?

Though these are not museum objects they are valued possessions of a friend of mine, discolored by NYC air quality and nicotine.

    Any advise is welcome.

    Hi Barbara,

This is something that I recommend be done by a professional textile conservator.  There is a lab in New York City, at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (Cathedral of Saint John the Divine) that accepts private work.  Or, your friend can simply consult the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) website--they list member conservators and there are quite a lot in New York. http://www.conservation-us.org/membership/find-a-conservator/results/?specialty=08&travel=True&zipcode=10025&radius=50#.VYrmPutTU0M
