Could you elaborate? Are we talking images of objects in your collections, or other things (events?)? There are many good DAMs out there. We don't use one, but have the capability to attach images to our regular collections management system, and the high resolution archival versions are kept on redundant drives (including one offsite) in a fairly robust file structure. So far we haven't found a DAM to be necessary, but we have a small staff and that admittedly keeps the compelxity down.
