Service animals are trained to so a service and is covered by the ADA. Therapy animals are usually not trained and, unless animals are allowed int he establishment, they do not have the privileges of a service dog/animal. ADA considers ONLY dogs and miniature horses as service animals if they are trained. There are only two questions to ask the person who has the animal - (1) What work or task has the animal been trained to do, and (2) is the service animal required because of a disability. Some states allow other service animals. FHA has additional definitions. See
