I came across something interesting on Twitter, from a professional in the UK who writes about access with a particular focus on autism. Her blog is
found here.
It's
an "easy read" guide to the Sir John Soane museum.
I thought this was really a great resource, not only for those with learning disabilities (to whom it is mainly directed) but for many others who may need help navigating the museum experience (my first thought was of my former ESL learners- while some museum guides were a great challenge to stretch their new-found English skills, some were written way above their level and were discarded rather than attempted due to frustration and a lack of a "way in". That balance of success and challenge is a tough one!)
Is anyone else doing this in their museum? Care to share?
Cheers,
Tracey
