At the Milwaukee Art Museum we are considering re-naming the Security Department. One possibility we've discussed is "Campus Safety", but I wondered what other names museum's have found to be effective yet compatible with a friendlier gallery presence?

At Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation our Security Department is called Safety and Security. This emphasizes the safety first mentality, which helps with a friendlier image. Also, the members of our Safety and Security department are very friendly and helpful which means more to me than any name change ever will!

The name "Protection Services" encompasses all of the essential functions we perform. The concept of protecting them from violence and the collection from theft is what most think of, but customer services as the 90% of what we do (internal and external) we spend most of our time keeping them safe from slips and falls and giving directions and information on guidelines behavior and where the bathrooms - prepping our teams for emergencies (natural and man made) and it really is a protection umbrella.
