I am working on a thesis about living collections policy-specifically live animals in non-zoo organizations. Does ANY organization, (state or local) have a sample living collection policy, or a list of topics/items that must be covered in a living collections policy? Are any organizations willing to share their policy with me?

AAM has a few sample documents that I am able to access as a student member but I can't access the documents intended for Tier 3 museums only.

Hi Jessica! I volunteered for a museum a few years ago that had a living collection. For a project during school they gave me their collection policy so that I could do research. It has a living collection policy in it! I would be happy to email you those excerpts so that you can check them out. Just shoot me an email and I will reply back with the information attached!

Try contacting The Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT. They operate a seaside learning center during the summer in conjunction with their science, art, history museum.

    Jessica

The National Park Service has some guidance on living collections in its policy and related handbook on benefits sharing. See  http://parkplanning.nps.gov/document.cfm?parkID=442&projectID=41624&documentID=56858.

We are currently developing interim guidance on living collections while we develop new policy and final guidance on living collections. Although I can't share the draft interim guidance at this time, we are hopeful that it will be approved and issued in 2-3 months and I would be happy to share it then.

I would be interested in hearing more about your research. If possible, I'd like to have a list of the museums that you've found have living collections policies.
