I'm working with a nature nonprofit that is establishing a partnership with the US Forest Service to administer a natural area that has no fences nor admission fees. There is a tiny visitor's center/bookstore and a separate interpretive center featuring an underwater view of a natural stream. The amenities - including the parking lot - are open only from mid-spring to mid-autumn (although people hike there year-round) and the USFS estimates a visitorship of 500,000 during the open season.
The nonprofit would like to have a metric for estimating how many of those free-admission visitors are likely to sign up for fee-based programs such as nature talks or hikes hosted by locally respected natural scientists.
Can anyone point me to this information, or offer advice from your own experience?
