  • 1.  Travelling exhibit that would involve information about Water or history of person connected to Water

    Posted 09-02-2016 01:25 PM

We hope to have a conference for International Water Day on March 22, 2017 and it is too tight a time frame to put together an exhibit ourselves. Does anyone know of a travelling exhibit that would work for this type of conference? Or anywhere I could start to look?

    Thank you!

    Barbara

    Hello Barbara,

I checked with a colleague and she suggested these ideas:

An exhibit from SMM may still be avail: https://www.smm.org/exhibitservices/portfolio/water-h2o-life

AMNH used to have one too. They may still....or it might be in storage.

    Hope these are helpful!

    Hello Barbara

university of north Carolina Charlotte has a whole series of exhibits connected to sustainability and water....Crista Cammaroto is who you should contact there. You may be able to recreate some of the exhibits they had.

Also, a great documentary photography show...a mess of fresh...recently at duke center for documentary studies. Send me an email and when i get back in the office I will connect you with the artist. A Mess of Fish looks at fishing traditions along the outer banks in NC.

Hi Barbara, The exhibition Water H2O=Life was a fruitful collaboration with my institution, AMNH and SMM. While the exhibition is no longer traveling, AMNH does license intellectual property from our exhibitions so that other institutions can replicate or modify exhibits we designed. This may include exhibition text, plans, software and system designs needed to recreate interactives, graphics files, etc. This could be a useful head start. SMM (Paul Martin) may have saved some components as well--not sure. Email Sharon Stulberg sstulberg@amnh.org for information on Water IP. Cheers, David

Check with Brenda Abney, Director at the Tempe History Museum.   They had a photographic exhibit on the Salt River,Ebb and Flow: Changing Views of the Salt River in 2013 that was shared with several other museums in the area.   Brenda can be reached at brenda_abney@tempe.gov.

The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service's Museum on Main Street program has a traveling water exhibit that might work. You can find more information on this site:

Museum on Main Street, Smithsonian Institution: Water/Ways

Chances are the exhibit is already obligated for the timeframe you are seeking, but you can't know for certain if you don't ask. They usually have 5 copies of their traveling exhibits out and about at any given time, so it's not impossible that they could help you.

    Hi Babara,

Minotaur Mazes has a traveling exhibit called Water's Extreme Journey where kids become raindrops and cycle through watershed habitats trying to stay clean and learning the ways we impact water in our daily lives. Here's a link: Minotaur Mazes

Smithsonian MOMS exhibit WaterWays. No idea about availability, I know it's here in MN for several months.
