  • 1.  Looking for co-presenters: Museums Inspiring School Practices (AAM 2016)

    Posted 08-30-2016 12:20 PM

I am looking for co-panelists on museums inspiring meaningful change in K12 schools or classrooms. I am the author of Learning on Display: Student-Created Museums that Build Understanding (kidcurators.com), which outlines an instructional strategy for classroom teachers. I work with classroom teachers to transform curriculum units into integrated museum design projects that are open to the community. My co-panelist is a lead teacher in a school that has transformed around the metaphor of School as Museum and has integrated exhibit design into their instructional approach resulting in ongoing school museum openings in dedicated exhibit space in the school. We seek a museum co-panelist/s to share ways in which museum programming / exhibit development processes have engaged K12 students or teachers and promoted lasting change in the school or classroom. If you are interested in talking further please email me at ldacquisto@me.com

Sorry for the lateness of this request! I realize the deadline is this Friday!!!

    Good morning Linda,

your topic sounds really interesting and one I'll attended if your panel is full. If not, I'd love to be part of the session.

The Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah in Kuwait works with schools in two ways. We have a curriculum integration programme that uses visits to the classroom before the class visits the museum. Both visits are based on integrating the museum visit and the objects targeted into the lesson plan. The second programme married the kids (6-12) involved in our Saturday programme with children from 10 elementary school classrooms to create an exhibition of objects from The al-Sabah Collection of art from the Islamic world.

Let me know if you need anything else from me.

    take care,

    Sue
