    Posted 03-15-2016 05:52 PM

The International Review of African American Art (IRAAA) is seeking contributions for an upcoming issue. In order to gain a sense of the journal, please look over the website:http://iraaa.museum.hamptonu.edu/store/

The publisher of IRAAA is Hampton University, and the desired print date is mid to late 2016. The topic for this issue is the experience of African American workers and artists in the art world. The term “art world,” is here defined broadly. It can be experiences of artists on the market, or experiences of employees at art-related institutions and organizations, such as museums, galleries, auction houses, academic departments, and the like. Contributions may also address the work of artists who address race and labor in their own work. Alternately, the article may focus on projects or pedagogical strategies used by administrators or educators in bringing such issues to broader public awareness. Reviews of recent or current exhibitions of the work of African American artists would also be appropriate.

Contributions can be scholarly or narrative in terms of format, although the discourse should remain culturally and historically grounded. Reviews should be about 1,000-1,500 words and features articles should be around 2,000-3,000 and should contain appropriate illustrations; although the length may be a bit longer depending on the nature of the topic. Reviews should contain 1-2 illustrations and features should contain about 4-6 illustrations. A $2,500 editorial stipend has been offered, and will be divided up evenly among contributors. If the contributor has a topic currently under consideration, please run it by the issue’s editor first. Please contact the guest editor, Hayes Peter Mauro, with any questions: hayes.mauro@gmail.com. The deadline for submission is May 8, 2016.
