I have some questions about whether or how to spin off an educational program as an independent nonprofit.
There's a lot of information out there about museums splitting into multiple museums, but I haven't found much precedent for a program becoming its own separate organization.
One example is TechBridge in Oakland CA, which started as an NSF-funded project at the Chabot Space and Science Center and later became fully independent. Can you help me with other examples?
The deeper questions are really how to minimize risk for all involved, how to manage intellectual property and records at the outset, and how to define the relationship so that it's crystal clear to audience and donors who's who.
