  • 1.  New Member Orientation

    Posted 12-05-2015 02:26 PM
We are thinking of hosting a introduction/orientation meeting for new members to provide general information and to welcome them. I would be curious to know if any one has done this type of activity? what to include? what not to include?

We have had a major campaign to increase membership and are thinking of hosting a simple greet and meet before opening hours to get to know our new members and to introduce them to all we have to offer. Any and all ideas, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated.

One idea that occurs to me to create an opportunity for a highly interactive meeting/event where members can share their experience or resume or project with the new members--through an evening presentation and then q & a or through a short moderated discussion panel of members.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts has an exciting take on membership engagement:

I'm unclear how it relates to their traditional memberships which are also available.

    good luck!

We host a new member orientation. We invite those who became members in a 6 month time frame.  We host it in our Member Lounge, serve cookies and have tea and coffee available. Introduce some of the Development staff and talk about the perks of membership, member only trips, discounts and answer questions that the members may have. This usually takes about an hour. After that they go on a docent led tour. We have had positive feedback on these orientations.
