    Hello,
I'm an independant textiles conservator who has been working on contract for the Centre de Conservation du Quebec (CCQ) for over 5 years. In my spare time I love to work on arts and craft projects. I love sculpture and painting, as well as jewlery making and leatherwork. I also love to listen to music.
    Nice to meet you all!

Good morning, Rachel, and Bonjour, Quebec!

At our new enterprise we are looking for independent conservators of various specialties to work with the art and artifacts that the public bring to us.

It would be great to have a wider network for textile conservators and wonder if there is anyone you might now who is possibly closer to us geographically.

Most of the textiles have been clothing or quilts, although there is also a straw hat in need of cleaning!

    Thanks,

Hello everyone! My name is Donna Barker and I work at the Star of the Republic Museum located within the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park in Washington, Texas. We focus on the ten-year period when Texas was an independent nation and have some amazing artifacts. I am still relatively new to the museum education world and act as "Girl Friday"; I am the Visitor Service Assistant in charge of scheduling adult and school groups to the three sites here at the park, tour guide, technology helper (if possible), and whatever else needs done. We have a small staff, so we all do a little of everything! Thankfully, AAM has been a tremendous resource in my ongoing museum education! ------------------------------------------- Donna Barker Star of the Republic Museum Brenham TX -------------------------------------------

    Hello, everyone

I've been in an on-going,deeply intense relationship with the American Art collection at Reynolda House Museum of American Art since 1990.  I do have many answers to the inevitable questions from colleagues about "Why I stay"--this collection is a major reason, as is the fact that the museum has grown tremendously in physical and staff size since I began--we've even affiliated with a university along the way-- so that I have not had to leave to seek new professional opportunities.  I feel now even more dedicated to my job, my museum and our community than ever!  At this point in time, we in the museum field get to live out Stephen Weil's charge to make museums matter.  It's not enough anymore to be well intentioned when it comes to diversifying audiences, for example--museums are going to have to look at everything and make hard choices and be different in future.  But that's not something to despair or complain about--there is great and meaningful work to do!

I am interested in everything having to do with museums, which can be a disadvantage.  If anyone wants to ask me about "classic" museum education topics such as teacher workshops, volunteer training, internships, family programs, etc. etc. I'd be happy to give advice.  I am currently trying to be more active with social media on behalf of the museum, to develop my educator skills so that I can bring my passion for sparking conversations and connections around art to online communities--this complements our new website initiative which staff considers an additional wing of the museum, with online exhibitions and programs just as we would have for any of our physical galleries.  I've started teaching studio classes at the museum, reconnecting with my MFA degree from long ago.  I am always interested in accessibility in the broadest sense, having family members with ASD.   I am married, have three grown children, two mixed breed rescue dogs, and way too many books and lots of art (and stuff) in my house.

Nice to meet all of you

    Kathleen
