Have you looked into Ford's Theatre at all? I used to work there in Visitor Services so my knowledge of how things work is limited, but I know that the museum and theatre (as a historic site, not as a working theatre) are run by both the National Park Service and the nonprofit Ford's Theatre Society. (The working theatre part is the nonprofit's jurisdiction.) It seems like a good example for you to look into: http://www.fordstheatre.org/home/about-fords/our-partnership-national-park-service.

Hi fellow museum devotees,
I am looking to benchmark on successful models of federal government/non-profit partnerships in building and maintaining a museum.
Our museum foundation is raising funds to build a new facility on federal (US Army) land. Their plan is to "turn over the keys" to the government Agency, thus the fed govt would have the bill for operations as well a maintenance. The Foundation will only remain involved as docent support and to make occasional purchases of artifacts.
Does anyone know of a model like this? Or similar? Would love to learn from others. I will be at the conference and happy to meet in person or exchange info here or via another electronic means.
Hope to hear from others who have walked this path already! See you down south :)
thanks, judi
