  • 1.  ticket sales methods for a small theater group?

    A small, local theater group is looking for a system to sell tickets. The do not own the performance spaces, but rent them. Their budget is small, and they have few employees. They need it primarily for selling tickets/seats to performances and filling spots in their classes, secondarily for donor records and mailing lists. Any recommendations for either an easy and affordable online service, or hardware/software purchase?

    I've never used it, but some of my friends with small businesses swear by Square. They have software for online sales, inventory, and they have a hardware attachment to swipe cards. No idea what their pricing is like, but like I said small businesses use them, so it can't be much!

    I was box office manager for a choral group for a while and we used Astor Street's Box Office in a Box. This allowed us to set up ticketing for various sized venues, scale the house, manage contacts, produce reports, and there was an add-on that managed (and integrated with) donations and memberships. This software was a little clunky in places but was much cheaper than the big name alternatives and met our needs very well.

    In addition to working in a museum, I run a small theatre company. I have tried many different ticketing platforms and I like BrownPaperTickets the best. They can do printed tickets, print your own, mobile tickets, or just generate a list. The platform is fairly intuitive (a little confusing at moments) and they have a very helpful helpdesk.
