Dear Seph,
Although it's 15 years old, Stephen Weil's 1999
article is very insightful and full of hard data. If you're looking at trends over a generation, the age of the article might not be a big drawback; but you want something more recent, I suggest looking for other articles by Weil - he writes very clearly, cites his (many) sources, and draws on a variety of reports, studies, and data sets.
Yours warmly,
Stephanie

Subject: Please help with sources to cite for the growth of museums
Dear All,
I'm having trouble finding sources to cite in a footnote concerning what I believe and have been told is the considerable growth of new museums in the last generation. Can anyone suggest books or articles I can cite that make this argument and have the data to back it up?
All the best,
Seph
