Presenters
Daniella Ann Cook, Ph.D., University of South Carolina
Daniella Ann Cook is an Associate Professor in the Department of Instruction and Teacher Education at the University of South Carolina. Her interdisciplinary community engaged research broadly focuses on culturally relevant pedagogies, transformative justice-oriented practices, and research methodologies. She examines race, class, and power in educational spaces both within and beyond classrooms. Her scholarship explores the intersecting themes of historical and contemporary narratives of black educators, public policy with a focus on community engagement and identifying factors that support student access to academically intense curricula. Her current project examines the civic engagement of high school students in ways that promote deeper and personalized learning. She has been published in a wide range of journals including Multicultural Perspectives, The Journal of Culture and Mathematics, Southern Anthropologist, Voices in Urban Education, and the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education.
Kara Knight, Minnesota Historical Society
Kara Knight is a teacher educator at the Minnesota Historical Society, where she works on the Library of Congress-funded Inquiry in the Upper Midwest Project and with the Northern Lights Minnesota Studies curriculum. Kara holds a Masters of Education in secondary social studies instruction and previously taught high school history and civics for six years.
