Centering Equity in Science Museums
Laurie Kleinbaum Fink from the Science Museum of Minnesota joins us to discuss how science museums can center equity in their work. She will share examples of how museum scientists and collections professionals are doing their work differently, how they got to this point and goals for the future. Science Museum of Minnesota staff are actively changing how they do museum work; starting with a statement on Equity and Inclusion, stepping back and letting external experts tell their stories, and developing meaningful partnerships.
Laurie Kleinbaum Fink, PhD is a museum professional and scientist. As the Chair of Science at the Science Museum of Minnesota, she leads the museum's Center for Research and Collections, connecting researchers and collections professionals to museum audiences. Previously she served as the principal investigator and project leader for multiple grant funded exhibits and programs including: Tissues of Life, Cell Lab, Disease Detectives, Wonder Years, Weighing the Evidence, and We Move and We Stay. She has worked at the museum for over 22 years, bringing her scientific training, research background, museum experience and a passion for making science accessible and relevant to broad audiences.
