The Museum of Other People: From Colonial Acquisitions to Cosmopolitan Exhibitions

Museums of ethnology, prehistory and exotic art confront demands for the repatriation of collections assembled in colonial times. Prof. Adam Kuper reviews the history of these 'museums of other people', discusses recent controversies, critiques important modern museums and exhibitions, and makes a case for cosmopolitan museums that value expertise, respect local knowledge, and foster international connections.

Adam Kuper most recently Centennial Professor of Anthropology at the London School of Economics and visiting professor at Boston University, has written extensively about the intellectual underpinnings of anthropology as a discipline. His most recent book, The Museum of Other People, has just been published.
