Our museum is contemplating a podcast series. In our planning meetings, we've discussed the metrics to judge success. As we are all novice at the art of museum podcasting, we would love to hear from similar museums. We are a medium sized museum complex in Northwest Florida with an archaeological site, art museum, children's museum, history museum, and a colonial village. I'm interested in (1.) How many downloads in the first 7 days? (2.) How many downloads in 30 days? to help us in building our benchmarks. I'd love to hear your pros/cons/suggestions/horror stories as well. You may email me directly at wdavis4@uwf.edu if you prefer.  Thank you.

    Wendi,

You might be interested in the
podcasting workshops we offer at StoryCenter as you begin your journey into podcasting. We offer open hands-on workshops that individuals may register to take, as well as custom workshops for organizations. The focus is on finding a clear, distinctive voice for your podcast, within a storytelling framework. In the workshop you construct a polished podcast segment.

I'm curious about an answer to this question as well.

Are any of the Museopunks crew watching this space? They might be a good resource for this, as an AAM podcasting effort that ran for a good few episodes.

If not, might be worth sending them an email.

    Hi Wendi,

I'll ask around for the metrics for you, it's not my area. Here's a link to our new podcast initiative. I couples the audio tour format with the podcast format. The idea is that you could get to know the works if you weren't here in the museum and if you are in the galleries you could listen to a deeper dive about the works on your phone. We'll be utilizing QR codes right on the label to point people to each podcast. We partnered with the local university for the audio content, recording, and editing.

The metrics I have for you will certainly increase when we launch the QR codes this fall.

    Good Luck,
