    Some provocative ways to define a museum. New words, new stories, new players

    We all know what a museum is. Or at least we think we do. We do from our childhood, and we even have an official definition to which we can turn in times of uncertainty like the ones we are living through. However, is this enough? When we ask a child in Mumbai, a neurodivergent person in Tokyo, a migrant in LA, a Kenyan artist, a farmer in the Netherlands, or Chat GPT what a museum is, things start to get interesting. In this session, through some sweet, thought-provoking questions, we will invite the audience to reevaluate their idea of what a museum is by imagining new ways of defining it that are more aligned with today's pressing challenges. We urgently need to create together a new language that inspires a different reality for museums. A reality based on healing, care, and love for our traumatized and damaged communities.

    Jose Antonio Gordillo Martorell, Ph.D. is the Founder and CEO of Cultural Inquiry, a mycelium company located in Switzerland that operates internationally. He is a professional with 26 years of experience in education, collective creativity, content co-creation, change-driven strategy, participation, and community weaving with a passion for the democratization of minoritized and unrepresented voices in the cultural arena. He has founded Children's Boards in different Museums around the world. He is the author of the recently published book "Children's Boards in Museums. New Approaches to Working with Children in Museums" and co-author of "Urgent Care for Schools" and "Urgent Care for Educators" both edited by Barbara J. Smith.
