I'm looking for a couple of panelists to join me on for this session in LA (full description below). Get in touch directly with me at jhart@aam-us.org if you are planning to come to the conference and:

    • Can share an experience where creating/updating or implementing an Institutional Code of Ethics enhanced your museum's public trust / built trust with its community (in general or a specific set of constituents). For example, did an action your museum took or didn't take, as guided by its code of ethics, earn your museum trust and confidence, and thus new visitors/donors/partners? Or did you create/update a code in response to a situation the museum faced with its public trust, and used the process to improve relationships with certain groups or the community at large?
    • Can talk about a pivotal experience creating (or substantially revising) your museum's Institutional Code of Ethics and how this built a foundation of trust within your museum (among board/staff/volunteers). For example, did the process help staff morale, solve a problematic dynamic, create a stronger team or better alignment among staff and board around institutional vision or mission, etc.?

If you aren't coming to the Annual Meeting but have an example of the above themes to share, please get in touch too!

Session Description: Why is an institutional code of ethics-and the process of creating it-so important for building a foundation of trust within an organization and with its external stakeholders? This session will cover the basics of what a code should include, as well as resources to help write or improve one. Panelists will share how developing or implementing codes of ethics protected their institutions and enhanced public trust.

When: Thursday, May 8 at 2:30 pm
