    No More Borrowed Frames: How Museums Can See Their Communities Through a More Respectful Lens

    Why do museums define communities in the same way as politicians, ad platforms, and retailers? Does it serve museums to accept their defaults?  What harm do we pass on when we accept status quo approaches to defining communities? What would happen if museums defined their communities in terms of people's goals? This conversation is an invitation to embrace a more contextual and respectful approach to understanding the people museums hope to support.
    Kyle Bowen, Principal of Museums as Progress,  helps cultural organizations identify and achieve their strategic goals through progress-space research. Museums As Progress (MAP) is  a research consultancy and community of practice based in Northport, NY. For over 10 years, Kyle has helped nonprofits understand the people they support more deeply so they can achieve greater impact.
