  • 1.  Inter-museum collection transfer examples

For a book I am writing about deaccessioning while assuring object preservation and provenance protections, I am seeking examples of inter-museum transfers for deaccessioned objects.  The transfer can be by sale, gift, trade or some combination thereof.  Thank you!  Steven Miller;  sh.miller2@verizon.net

I would reach out to the Mobile Museum of Art in Mobile, AL. They had run into serious issues with storage, so their collections department in the last couple of years has done an excellent job of deaccessioning items in the collection that don't fit with their mission, and finding those collections pieces new homes with institutions more suited to them. For instance, I was previously working at two different historic institutions in that community, and during this process both received numerous items that had been originally added in the MMOA collection more on the basis of their historic or architectural relevance to the city than their overall artistic merit.
