Imposter syndrome was first identified in 1978 and has since proliferated as a pathology that people (especially non-cis, white, and wealthy males) can "suffer from". Suffering insinuates the deficiency is in the person experiencing imposter syndrome versus acknowledging the damage caused by their surrounding cultural constructs. This webinar will breakdown imposter syndrome and why it's prevalent in non-dominate cultural groups, outline the institutionalized mechanisms that are present in everyday work-life that perpetuate self-beliefs of "not enoughness", and provide strategies to short-circuit the suffering and get straight to addressing the missing mechanisms that are in place for our cis white male colleagues. This is not to say that this category of male does not experience imposter syndrome--it's that statistically the data shows the odds are low due to the structural advantages and constant affirmation society currently gives them.
