  • 1.  Digitizing Reel-to-Reel audio tapes?

    Posted 01-09-2024 09:02 AM
Dear Friends - We have a collection of about 100 Reel-to-Reel audio tapes from the 1970’s that need to be digitized. They are field recordings of Sikh devotional music called Gurubani Kirtan. We would love to share this collection, as so many people would love to hear these recordings of famous musicians, many of whom are deceased.
They probably have not been played at all since being recorded and if some were played it would not have been more than once or twice. I would like to have a US firm that specializes in historical preservation do the digitization so that they are handled carefully and with expertise.
Can any of you make a recommendation? Thank you kindly. May Peace Prevail.

Great list. Thank you. I am familiar with Graphic Audio here in the Washington DC metro area. They handle National Archives transfers.

We used George Blood and were very happy. They are based in Philadelphia. We had to ship to them because we are in Florida. We had all sorts of random types of media and they were able to transfer almost everything (some of the film we sent was beyond repair).

    Hi,

We've had audio and film assets digitized by the Media Preserve, under the umbrella of Preservation Technologies. They've been great to work with and have done a great job.

Happy to answer specific questions if you have any.

    Best,
    Nicole

I recently used Memnon when I headed the archives at The Riverside Church. They digitized over 3,500 of our magnetic reel-to-reel audio tapes from the 60s and 70s and we were very pleased with their work. Additionally, when we sent out a RFP, George Blood was also a very strong contender.
