This seems a simple request, but I have not found anywhere an agreed set of definitions about what the terms/titles "Assistant Curator", "Associate Curator", "Curator", "Senior Curator" and "Chief Curator" entail. While each institution surely has their own nuances, can anyone direct me to a set of agreed-upon, professional descriptions to which I can point for such things as job descriptions, salary reviews etc? Without a professional resource toward which to point, essentially I am left with defending my position "because I say so" which is obviously ineffective. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance!

There are variations that others may be able to summarize. It could depend upon the size of the institution and the discipline. However, a resource that may be helpful is the Curators Core Competencies document created by the CurCom Professional Network several years ago. It can be found on the AAM website. https://www.aam-us.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/CURATOR-CORE-COMPETENCIES.pdf
