  • 1.  bluetooth mini photo printer from iPad/Smartphone

    Posted 02-06-2023 09:35 AM

Does anyone have experience with the mini printers that can instantly print photos from your iPad/Smartphone and connect via Bluetooth? I am curious about options that are not polaroid cameras. Some examples of things I've found online are the Canon Mini Photo Printer or options from Kodak. If anyone has experience with these or other brands, I'm eager to hear your reviews, pros, and cons.

    Thanks,

    Dena Rapoport

Hi Dena, we used an HP envy 4500 years ago when we were in a remote location packing up an estate. We wanted the ability to shoot and print a label for the boxes so we knew what was inside. It worked flawlessly. There was an app I think. I can't remember now, it's been many years.

I suppose it wasn't so mini though. It was the size of a smallish printer. so maybe this reply doesn't help you. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, will you also share your use case? If you come up with something you love, will you share it with the MuseumTrade.org community as well so it's saved and searchable for eternity?

    All My Best,
    Matt

This reply brightened up the morning here!  We have a lot of institutional memory, with folks who can reference projects going back 30 years, but your project from 4500 years ago tops us all!

Kristin Peszka, I was thinking the same thing. Also, I just laughed out loud at your comment. Thanks for the much needed laugh, Amy

I have used the Canon Selphy printer ((https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Wireless-Compact-AirPrint-Printing), which works great over wifi. You can print up to 4x6" or smaller formats, one image or multiple in a single print. You can connect with other apps that allow you to create collages, add borders, text, etcetera. It connects easily with a phone or iPad, a memory card or USB. Cons: you can only fit around 15 prints in the feeder so depending on what you are doing you may need to add paper. The color ink comes in film form so sometimes the overall color is a bit off. But depending on what you are doing with the photos it may not be as important.

We also use the Canon 'Selphy CP1300' for educational programming! They aren't the highest quality photos, but pretty good considering the size of the printer and instantaneous printing. Not the highest quality photos, but it works well for our K-12 purposes. It is wifi enabled, you can connect iPad/iPhone to the printer using Apple Print or connect to the printer's 'network' with any device. We choose to have students take photos with one of our iPads, then print - to save time, rather than connect each one of their devices individually.

    Hope this helps,

    Emily

    Hi Dena,

I had been plugging away and doing research in this area and you prompted me to pull it alltogether into a cohesive article that is easily processed. Sorry to inlcude a link that moves you off this forum, but it's pretty long and has a couple images and links. I hope it helps you on your journey. I would LOVE to know what you come up with in the end and how you're using it. Good Luck, Matt
