  • 1.  Docent Open House

    All,

I just wanted to thank you on this board. In a previous thread, someone else asked for ideas for recruiting volunteers. I saw a response that said "hold an open house," and I liked that. So in about a month I put together an open house for our Docent corps in advance of our training course starting in March. Specifically, I wanted to try and get more qualified women and people of color feeling that they are part of the aviation story, too, and able to share it with our visitors. I put together a steering committee made up of the few female and people of color we have on the Docent team, challenged all the Docents to spread the word, and just this week we held a successful open house with 27 attendees (far beyond my expectations). Even more exciting a full 1/3 of them were qualified women or people of color. Thank you again for the excellent idea and I hope others can take it and run even further.
