Museum professionals use a variety of methods to communicate their knowledge, including this community forum. Museum workers produce and use a variety of media to share information about professional practice, including books, peer review journals, self-published reports, conferences, professional development programs, blogs, social media, and more.
This week, Curator: the Museum Journal issued a call for papers for the special issue:
The Ways Ideas Are Shared: Building Knowledge in the Museum Field
The call invites critical dialogue about how knowledge is produced and communicated in the museum field.
- What are the implications of the ways this field builds knowledge about professional practice?
- Who is involved in the production and communication of professional knowledge? Who is not?
- How does the production of knowledge involve traditions of oppression or opportunities for equity?
- How does all of this affect professional practice?
We encourage submissions from all types of museum workers, including staff in museums, volunteers, board members, consultants and freelancers, researchers in academia including graduate students, advocates, network leaders and members, and more. The invitation is open to workers from any nation involved in any type of museum. We particularly encourage those who are early to mid-career who may imagine new ways of knowledge building.
