  • 1.  Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Resources

    Posted 08-29-2017 10:07 AM

To all of our colleagues in the path of Hurricane Harvey and everyone affected by the severe flooding, our hearts are with you.

We have gathered some emergency response resources and we encourage you to share these widely with your colleagues in the region. We urge everyone else to take a moment to review your museum's emergency preparedness plans. Use our resources if you need help developing this core document.

Cecilia - what a thoughtful and beneficial post!  While I am not in an area impacted by Hurricane Harvey, I appreciate your reaching out and sharing your emergency preparedness resources.  Museums are a unique "business" and for any organizations without disaster preparedness plans, this is a good reminder.  AND, your sharing of your resources will be helpful to anyone in immediate need. - Warm regards, Emily

The following are past Connecting to Collections and Connecting to Collections Care webinars concerned with disaster recovery. These available in our archives to watch anytime:

All of these webinars also have additional resources that may be of help.

    And the <g class="gr_ gr_194 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="194" data-gr-id="194">followng</g> message was sent yesterday from the National Heritage Responders:

"As the south begins to assess the effects of Hurricane Harvey, the National Heritage Responders stand ready to assist. The NHR is a highly skilled team of conservators and other collections care professionals with expertise in emergency response for cultural heritage collections. The team responds to the needs of cultural institutions during emergencies and disasters through coordinated efforts with first responders, state agencies, vendors and the public.

Cultural heritage institutions affected by Hurricane Harvey are encouraged to call the NHR hotline for advice and referrals.  All assistance provided by the National Heritage Responders is free, funded by grants and generous donations to the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation.
