We use Cubelets at our Experiment Bar in our Space Science exhibit (Space Odyssey). They are staffed by a volunteer. We have about 20 cubelets and the volunteer guides challenges for guests (Can you build a lighthouse? Can you build a vehicle? etc.) as well as allows for free exploration. They are very popular and both our guests and volunteers enjoy them. We also use the bluetooth app to control the cubelets and the volunteers have a lot of fun remote controlling things guests build.
Our camp program also use them in our robotics camps and our space camps to build design challenges and learn how robots work.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Subject: Cubelet Robots
Hello all,
I have been developing a Cubelets program for our Innovation Lab space within the museum that I work at and I was interested if any other institutions had experience with using Cubelet robots for public play? Currently, I do not have plans for making this a school based program because of the limited number of Cubes that we presently have, but I am open to input on other's use for school programming.
My current proposal for this program is public use in our interactive lab space as follows:
- Short introduction on what robots are and what makes them special.
- What are Cubelets and how do they work? Then allow guests time to play with several cubes in a Free Play period, adding additional pieces as they become more comfortable with their use.
- Once guests have figured out how the Cubelets work, give a variety of challenges through cards for them to accomplish. Some people may not stay this long or if they have used Cubelets before they may go straight to getting challenges.
- When visitors receive a challenge card, facilitators would ask guests what cubes they need to construct their robot and why.
- I expect the facilitator to also ask a variety of questions about cause and effect, and if they have noticed any pattern or trends with their robots.
Have any other museums used Cubelets for public use or school programming, and would you consider sharing your findings? Any additional thoughts and experiences are welcome.
Thank you,
Cody Cook
