As a source of income, we offer our facilities to outside groups to rent for their events.  For a company or individual, we ask to be a named insured on there liability policies.  We've had groups, such as the FAA or the AirForce and have been told that they don't have a way to provide that.

Just wondering if others have faced this and how they handle.

    Good Morning,

There are many groups that, as you say, don't have any way to add an insured party.  That is something that should be covered under your institution's insurance policy if you have rental events. Perhaps you could ask the renters to pay for an insurance "rider" should the insurance company feel that to be necessary.

We ran into this for a group renting one of our traveling panel exhibitions. Typically it's because the entity is "self-insured." (NOTE: I am NOT a lawyer or an insurance professional) We handled it by adding language to the contract that made it clear that the organization would be financially responsible for any damage, injury, etc. to the exhibition or anyone in the exhibition space through the term of the loan period. Not sure if that would be acceptable for your entire venue, though.

    Good luck!

We do many events with National, State and local governments.  Rules are all over the board depending on the agency and the person signing the event contract.  If they won't/can't do insurance we just make sure that our damages clause is very tight.
