Seeking an additional panelist:  Contributors to this session will have been involved in drafting standards for environmental literacy on the national, regional, or institutional level. The session aims to explore if there is a recommendation for the museum field: What should museums prioritize while the planet warms, while biodiversity dwindles, while sea levels rise? Might museums (in their exhibitions and public programming) benefit from adhering to a set of national or regional standards – created by museum people – in order to cultivate collective impact? How do we build bridges from physical encounters with specimens and sites to critical thinking and advocacy?
Is our industry afraid of "should?" Research tells us that the public highly trusts museums... so what should natural and environmental history museums do with their soft power?

    Hi, Matt

As a natural history preserve and active archaeological research site, the Lubbock Lake Landmark does extensive work in the area of environmental education combining classroom activities, exhibits, and outdoor exploration on our 300+ acre prairie.  Susan Rowe, the Landmark's Education Program Manager, would be an excellent source on this topic.  She has worked on standards of many types at the local, regional and state level and trained classroom teachers on the subject.  Best of luck with a great idea!

    Hi Matt,

If you've not yet found your panelist, let me know and I may be able to find just the right person from within my organization, the National Park Service. I know that a lot of talented and passionate folks who have a good deal of resources and stories to share on the topic of environmental literacy.
