Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is in the strategic planning phase for future growth of an adjacent site called the Vizcaya Village. We want to make the space our point of arrival and create a dynamic visitor orientation experience. I am looking for unique models of how to orient the visitor to the site, clarify site elements, offer options of how to move through the site and lastly, innovative uses of interpretive technology to convey information. Does anyone know of existing orientation spaces that we should look at as models?

A good idea would be to engage a site planner (Urban Planner or Land Use Planner) conversant with Miami's climate and museum requirements. Every site is unique and has its optimum design solution.

Hi Mark - I don't know of any existing models, but our company offers visitor-centered research - including heuristic consulting - that might be of help. We work nationwide with museum, aquaria, zoos and cultural orgs to improve the visitor experience.  Dig In UX | Uncover. Learn. Design.

If you haven't contacted them already, the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, CA should have some useful tips for you. Their visitor orientation and education facility has recent been completely remodeled. See http://www.huntington.org/WebAssets/Templates/content.aspx?id=19150

The Frick Pittsburgh opened their orientation center in 2014.
