Digital Exhibition Software Recommendations

    Hello Everyone,

    Hope you are well :)
I am looking for recommendations for digital exhibition software; we are currently using WordPress.
Something reliable, flexible, easy to use, and amazing preferred (or the ability to add plugins).

    Thanks

I just discovered Genial.ly from a colleague. It's not a WordPress tool (which we use too), but it can be embedded. There are several levels of subscription, but the free version seems pretty great.https://www.genial.ly/

I'm working in it right now for our virtual tour and programming. That said, I'm anxious to see what others say. I have yet to find a good WP plugin to fit the bill.

Scalar's unique structure is based on a non-linear format that allows for flexible interactivity in the author's construction of each page. This research guide will show you how to begin building a Scalar "book' and how to best use its features to create an online platform for your project research.

I know a few museums who are using Exhibbit and have given good reviews. It's very similar to ArtSteps.

Online exhibitions applications like Exhibbit and ArtSteps allow you to put 2D art on a 3D model, but let's face it, it's a poor substitute for recreating the experience of an exhibition. For one thing you can't recreate scale. No matter how far you zoom in the artwork is only as large as your screen. I think that is one of the main reasons these types of online exhibitions are so unsatisfying. Rather than recreating a digital 3D gallery you should think about what are your educational goals for the exhibition and how can the interactivity of a web platform engage your audience in ways that are not possible with a physical exhibition.

Last year my team at yU+co worked with the Getty Research Institute on the Bauhaus: Building the New Artist online exhibition. This website not only accompanied a physical exhibition but provided more insight into the Bauhaus through interactive content. For Schlemmer's Triadic Ballet, we used a new web platform to create an interactive 3D performance of the ballet. This interactive web experience allowed users to create their own ballet with a variety of Bauhaus costumes and dances. This is something that was never possible before.

The closing of museums has presented an opportunity to rethink online education. Feel free to reach out to me to discuss how my team can support your online exhibition short term and long term goals.

    Thanks

I just played with the dance interactive. Very cool. I'm wondering about one that would allow people to "weave" from sheep to finished textile.

    Hi all,
I am wondering about the accessibility of these various software programs. Do they work well with screen readers? is it easy to add captioning? Is keyboard navigation possible?

    Thanks,
    Hannah

You might want to ask the folks who created this resource http://connect-hear.com/ to see if they have any suggestions. The website is more about videoconferencing, but the two people behind it, Tina and Catherine, may have insights.

    Hi Tiffini,
I have heard that http://muse.run/ works well and you can edit it yourself, add interactive elements and it works on visitors' devices.
    All the best,
