Traveling Dinosaur Exhibits - experience and feedback

  • 1.  Traveling Dinosaur Exhibits - experience and feedback

    Hello!
My facility is considering bringing in a traveling exhibit in the near future.  We are specifically interested in dinosaur exhibits or dinosaur themed traveling exhibits.  Does anyone have any feedback on their experience with something along these lines?  Any recommendations of traveling exhibit companies to contact?  Any other advice for us?  We do not have a lot of experience bringing in traveling exhibits and are primarily a small zoo, but are looking to broaden our offerings with bird-related exhibits.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

The Scietific Center Kuwait got the T Rex Named Sue exhibit from the Field Museum and that was cool.

Caitlin - since it's your first outing, AND you're in a tricky environment, I would stick to non-object-based exhibitions comprising text panels.  You may even be able to find free-standing systems that are lightweight and fairly easy to install.  Try SITES.  Good Luck!

Contact the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News, VA. They have extensive experience in bringing in dino exhibits and have it down to a science, weak pun intended. Fred Farris is the fellow to talk to and I'm sure willing to offer advice. He's also recently created a play zone that is themed to dinos. Good luck!

    Caitlin,

I suggest that you look at "Dinosaurs Among Us," an exhibit on the evolution of birds as modern dinosaurs by the American Museum of Natural History.

Here are a couple of traveling exhibits with rich and educational paleontological content:
    Darwin & Dinosaurs
    Savage Ancient Seas

If you have something more specific in mind, you might consider renting specimens and creating custom content that tells the story you want.
Triebold Paleontology, Inc. can help with that.

    Caitlin,

Union Station in Kansas City has had a popular dinosaur exhibit on view for the last few months, Dinosaurs Revealed, which I believe they may be planning to loan out as a traveling exhibition after they're finished with it, though I'm not sure. You might contact them as they also bring in traveling exhibits throughout the year and may have some helpful advice for you.

Expedition: Dinosaur recently came to Bishop Museum in Honolulu. It was so nice, I took my son twice. They also had an nice animated baby T-rex suit that would come visit with kids at certain times.

    Hi Caitlin,

I work for Imagine Exhibitions and we produce traveling exhibitions.

We have a few different dinosaurs exhibitions: indoor, outdoor, different sizes...
I met Laurie Nicholl at the AZA conference this year and we talked about our dinosaurs exhibitions.

Let me know if you are still looking for more information about what we do.

    All the best,

    Hello Caitlin,

Here's a traveling dinosaur exhibit for consideration.  It's called  'Amazing Dinosaurs!' The exhibit is designed for all ages and is very interactive, with more touchable dinosaur fossils than any traveling exhibition is the U.S.  You can see photos and get details at www.antiquitiescompany.com   (The photo gallery on the website may be helpful.)

This exhibit is relatively new, having first been presented in 2016 at the Flint Hills Discovery Center in Kansas, where it set attendance records.

Glad to help if you have questions.
