  • 1.  Resource for crab replicas or preserved specimens?

    Posted 01-04-2018 05:25 PM
Looking to purchase replicas or preserved specimens / molts of mangrove tree crabs (Aratus pisonii), mudflat fiddler crab (Uca rapax), and the great land crab (Cardisoma guanhumi).

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks :)

As I recall, when I worked for Split Rock Studios and we did the dioramas for Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, we had to make casts and manufacture these small crabs. I did some quick searches (taxidermy supply, Skulls unlimited) and  didn't find anything.

    Hello Ms. Piotter,
If you can get your hands on specimens and send them to me, I can make good casts for you. The only really difficult parts will be the hairs on the mud crab. Please see attached photos of casts I made of the Atlantic blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) and the Black-fingered mud crab (Panopeus herbstii). Please see this page from our website for other work:
